![]() Borderlands are not only present between the Native Americans and the whites throughout the story then, but also exist between human beings and their environment. Though the concept of “borderlands” presented in the Humanities Core lectures mainly refers to a boundary between varying cultures, I believe the term can also be used to describe mankind’s relationship with nature and its various components. This relationship between mankind and the untamed wilderness also differs between the Native American and white cultures presented within the film, as the white fur trappers seek to head west to hunt for animal pelts whereas the Native Americans have a spiritual connection to the land rather than a commercial one. As seen during Glass’s struggle to survive in the snowy wilderness, there is also ongoing strife between man and nature as well as an overall theme of mankind’s role in the world as it pertains to nature. This conflict between opposing human beings is not the only source of conflict within the film, however. ![]() The friction between the two groups was especially evident during their numerous interactions, with most of their confrontations resulting in violence between the two parties. One of the most recurring aspects of the movie I took note of was the tension between the Native Americans and the white fur trappers that was caused due to differences between their cultures. I especially liked the manner in which the film was filmed and the various scenic environments the movie presented. Despite not being a huge fan of biographical movies, I actually enjoyed watching it. As I was studying for finals a few days ago I watched The Revenant, since it happened to be on TV at the time.
